About Pulppier

Pulppier is a media for writers who want to publish their texts online. Pulppier is also meant for mobile readers who may search texts by using a phone, laptop, tablet or an iPad.

Pulppier is a project in its testing phase. Reporting the bugs at info@pulppier.com will be much appreciated. It is a huge help if we know about the errors or bad usability. All feedback is welcome.

How to use Pulppier?

Finding texts is easy. On the front page there are lists of the most recent texts, and the texts that have been read most often. In addition, in the read section the reader may search the texts by writer, text type, genre and language. When you log in with your username, the front page will list the latest texts from the writers that you follow.

Anyone may search and read the texts but in order to publish a text or to comment, or to follow a writer, you need to join in.

Joining in

In order to join Pulppier you have to accept the terms of use.

Pulppier asks for your first and last name and e-mail address, but these are not public information.

Your homepage is a semi-public piece of information, in the sense that when you publish a text, you can choose whether or not you want your homepage URL to be readable below your text. As a homepage you can give an URL to your blog, Twitter, or any place where you tell more about yourself or your texts.

The username is your alias in Pulppier, either your real name or a nick. Your username will be published with your text or your comment.

Keep your password in a safe place and change it frequently.

If you want to, you may upload your avatar. The allowed file formats are jpeg and gif.

Also, if you want to, you can tell about yourself with a few words. This info will be visible to your followers.

Publishing

When you are logged in, you are able to publish a story. Is it a short story, serial story, poem, or cartoon that you would like to publish? Or maybe you are a mobile writer, and you would like to write a story in small chunks - in length of text messages?

You always have to accept the terms before your text is published.
Back

Publish a short story

You are asked to give a header to your story (that is a name, title, headline if you prefer).

Then, you give the content of the story. Write the text into the text box (or copy-paste it from a Word-document, for instance). You may add bb-tags to make the text more readable on the browser. Please note that html- tags are not allowed. You can always preview the text to check that it appears right.

Then some metadata: it is boring to tick but it makes your text searchable in the long run. Please choose the language that you used, as well as the genre. Please note that list of the genres is merely very short at this stage - suggestions for more genres are welcome.

You can choose if you want to publish your homepage address (or Facebook, Myspace, Twitter). If you tick here, the homepage address will be shown below your published text.

You do not have to allow scores or comments with your story if you don't want to. If you feel ok with feedback, just tick them away.

Publish a serial story

Publishing a serial story, one part at the time, proceeds pretty much like publishing a short story, except that you can add a chapter name to the text. You do not have to worry about numbering the parts, it will be taken care of.
Back

Publish a poem

See how the short story publishing proceeds. The same idea is applied here.
Back

Publish a cartoon

The text must be uploaded as a png or gif or jpeg file. Otherwise, the procedure is pretty much like publishing a short story.

Publish a SMS story

You are given 160 characters, make the best of it.

If you start a story from scratch, choose "Start a new story". Give your story a header (a title) and write the story. Fill in the additional data, so your text will be searchable later. (See publishing a short story).

If you want to proceed with your SMS story that you started earlier, choose "Continue the story". You will be given the header (the title) of the story that you were working on, then just write the text content in 160 characters. That's it.

Editing

Unfortunately altering your text once you have published it is not possible at the moment. We're working on this, though. If you really need to change something, the best way is to take your text down. Go to 'About me' where you see a list of your texts. There is a Remove button next to each text header. After you have removed the text, make the changes that you want to and publish your work again.
Back

Commenting

If you have logged in and the writer has allowed commenting, you can write a comment below the submitted text.
Back

Following

When you are logged in you can start following a writer. Following means that when you log in with Pulppier, you will see the latest texts from the writers that you follow on the front page. That way you can easily stay updated with the new texts. In the About me section you will see the list of the writers that you follow and the ones that follow you. By clicking the avatar you can see a full list of texts from these writers. You can stop following or being followed at any time.
